Make a difference in a better way
Spiritual - Change inside
Consistent friendship and counseling, deep theological training, prayer, leading by example, and putting our leaders teaching into action. Doing this without regard to caste, age or gender. In the far areas of Nepal, this is not the ‘normal’ way, but we can demonstrate it and show that there is a better way.
Mental - Education for change
Without education, opportunity often passes right by. Even worse than the lack of opportunity is the lack of hope. People living in remote areas are taken advantage of simply because they can’t read. Criminal syndicates steal their children for human trafficking and land is taken from the poor because they don’t know their rights. Women are unable to flourish and men are trapped in the system. There is a better way.
Physical - Care for the body
Food distribution without discrimination during catastrophes, simple finance training (savings and interest rates), business training, giving micro-loans (and some larger ones). We strive to build confidence and a desire to provide for their families. But more than that, to help create the opportunity to provide for their family and then share with others. This is how a healthy person lives; There is a better way.
Why isn’t it free?
To attend our seminars, we charge about $1 a day. In the village context, this can be a hard but free creates dependence. We give money when necessary but prefer to lend because free creates dependence. We teach at seminars, but they are planned, executed, and advertised by those who will benefit because free creates dependence. If someone can’t afford our help, we create scholarships but stand by the fact that free creates dependence. And we push to take it a step farther; Our leaders says, “And do not forget to do good and to share with others, for with such sacrifices God is pleased.” Not just independence but interdependence. There is a better way.
Is it too hard to reach?
Regardless of the growth in Nepal, there are many areas where the presence of community groups is missing. Humla, Jumla, Dolpa, etc. are a few representative districts with large populations, but the number of community groups is in single digits. Madehshi, Mushar, Chuadhari, etc. are cultures/areas where the presence of these groups is virtually absent. These are the hardest to reach areas. These are the areas where the harvest is ripe but laboring is hard and dangerous. Reach Out-Nepal has been given a broad vision to reach such communities: to teach the way shown by our leader, to plant the community groups, and to provide training so that hope can be given to unreached peoples.
Reach Out-Nepal is a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt charity. All contributions designated for specific projects shall be applied to those projects. Occasionally, we receive more contributions for a given project than can be used wisely on a project. If that happens, we will shift these funds to meet a similar need.
